Artek was founded in Helsinki in 1935. We made a special edition Snap Pad for Artek wrapped with Artek's new textile, Siena.
The graphic, geometric Siena textile pattern created by Alvar Aalto was inspired by the Italian city he adored – specifically, legend has it, by its mediaeval cathedral on Piazza del Duomo. Available in a variety of colours inspired by the hues and tones of Aalto’s material world, it comes as loose fabric in different cotton qualities or printed on a selection of charming accessories.
Artek was founded in Helsinki in 1935 by four young idealists: Alvar and Aino Aalto, Maire Gullichsen, and Nils-Gustav Hahl. Their goal was “to sell furniture and to promote a modern culture of living by exhibitions and other educational means.” The name Artek combines "art" and "technology". Technology is refined by incorporating art, and art becomes more functional through the power of technology.
