素材 Material

Light Hammer Nylon
This fabric is named for its almost hammered looking surface. Made to our specifications to be light and strong. It feels dry and crisp like our Hammer Nylon, but is thinner for an effortless daily bag. The fabric surface feels natural but it has the strength of nylon. This high density improves the water resistance of nylon. Light Hammer Nylon fabric is created using a proprietary process invented and made in small batches in Japan.
Vegetable-tanned cowhide
To increase the strength in the traditional way this leather was shrunken. The shrinking process make the leather fibers more dense and imparts a soft flexibility. The signature of shrunken leather is the irregular ‘pebbly’ surface grain that varies from skin to skin.
How We Dye Our Leather
There is quite a bit of variation from skin to skin and even within the same skin. The typical way to make leather color uniform is to cover the surface with thick synthetic fillers and pigment coatings, covering the natural variations in surface and color. Unfortunately this finish does not allow scratches to blend in or improve over time. Postalco leather is colored using aniline dyes. Aniline dyes soak into the leather leaving visible the natural variation in grain and texture. The more aniline dyed leather is used, the better the surface patina gets over time. Each skin is different: a faint stripe-like pattern, called ‘tora’ in Japanese is a natural effect due to the way the dye soaks in to the various parts of the skin. Each skin's tora is different. Making Veg tanned and Aniline dyed leather is more expensive and time consuming but produces beautiful leathers.
ケア方法 Care

Leather and fabric webbing may fade with use and colors may bleed, especially when wet. If your bag gets wet gently blot it with a soft dry cloth. Do not wash this bag. Do not place in the dryer. To clean: Spot dry clean or wipe with a moistened soft cloth. Using water repellent spray made to be used with both leather and fabric. If the leather feels dry please use a mild creme (such as clear Delicate Shoe Cream) to replenish moisture. Be sure to use only clear cream as any color will rub off!

pen-info
The material, Hammer Nylon, has the appearance of being beaten with a hammer. It is resilient and stands up on its own, even when it is empty. The price is a little higher than a typical a backpack. However, the Postalco products I have used so far are long-lasting.The item I’ve used longest, the Legal Envelope, is already in its 12th year. The longer I use it, the deeper its character gets. I'm sure this backpack can be used normally for about 10 years. If you think about it, it's not expensive at all. I am very satisfied with my purchase.

Hazel After Dyed

Three large pockets

Cushioned pocket
The main compartment contains a cushioned pocket that fits a laptop (up to a 16" MacBook Pro) and other papers.

Front zipper pockets
The two large zipper pockets on the front are made with dividers that will keep the pocket volumes open even if the other pockets are filled.

Designed for comfort
When carrying any weight in a soft backpack, often the bag uncomfortably sags away from the wearer's back. Frame structures or thick foam cushions, used to prevent this problem, end up reducing valuable storage space in the pack. We developed an original design that keeps the bag closer to the back without bulky frames or overly thick cushions. The shoulder straps connect and continue to the bottom of the bag, structurally supporting the contents.

Feels good in hand
Double leather-wrapped handles on the top make it easy to carry this bag by hand, and long leather zipper pulls allow the bag to be opened and closed while wearing gloves.

Quick access pouch
The bag's top surface has a quick access zipper pouch large enough to hold a wallet, phone, and other essentials.

About Bridges
Gustave Eiffel who made the Eiffel Tower was a bridge specialist. To build the world's tallest tower he applied what he knew about bridge making. He really took a horizontal thing and made it vertical. Inspired by the way that a bridge divides and balances weight we made these lightweight bags that don't hide their structure. There is a single layer of fabric supported inside with a series of webbing straps. The lightweight architectural strength of the Postalco Bridge Bags is combined with our original Hammer Nylon fabric.

Carrying research
Even in different ages and cultures, people’s methods of carrying on their backs are strikingly similar.

Thinking of handles
We design handles to match human hands, but our hands themselves are so flexible that handles can take on many shapes.

Swimming hands
I can't help but think that an octopus looks a little like a swimming hand. A human hand and an octopus are completely different but they both seem to have adopted at a similar shape. An octopus's branched body makes it adept at squeezing in and around a variety of spaces. The human hand is also able to adapt to so many different shapes, blending with the many objects it comes into contact with daily.

Staying the same
100 years apart but still carrying in essentially the same way.

Clever storage and easy access
Ever feel like you have a small house on your back? A backpack is like carrying a small house.

Object Layers Around the Body
Marshall McLuhan writes about objects that we use around us as extensions of our bodies. The wheel is an extension of our feet, telephones are extensions of our voices, and hats are extensions of our hair. Each thing we add to our bodies is an attempt to fill in some missing need. Will our bodies ever be complete?

It feels dry and crisp like our Hammer Nylon, but is thinner for an effortless daily bag. The fabric surface feels natural but it has the strength of nylon. Learning from Japan
The craftspeople, suppliers, and small workshops found in Japan make things not to be found anywhere else. We are fortunate to work with family businesses that are so focused on their craft. Don’t put Postalco items on a shelf or in a drawer. Their beauty is revealed through daily use. They will help you feel good at home and look impressive in a meeting.
