From Point to Line.

Individually crafted solid metal ballpoint pen with a unique U-clip. The entire body is cut from solid aluminum while the clip is cut from solid brass. We found this combination gives the pen the solid feeling we love without being heavy. Included ink cartridge: SXR-5 0.5mm waterproof ink. Patent pending. Weight 26g. Aluminum and brass. Handmade in Japan.

U字に削り出されたポスタルコオリジナルのクリップは、U字がペンの頭の部分を覆っているので、ポケットや紙束に留めるとクリップだけが外から見えて、まるでタイピンみたいです。

Our original U-Clip

When this pen is attached to a notepad or in a pocket, all that’s visible is the U-clip, giving it a clean look like a classic tie clip. The U-shaped clip, made by shaving metal away from a solid block, is Postalco’s original design. In a single curved shape, the metal clip arcs over the top of the pen allowing the pen to sink lower onto the papers and pockets it is clipped to.

Like an instrument

Instead of a plastic or rubber grip, there are fine record-like lines inscribed into the pen body. Lines cut into the clip give just the grip needed and also create a subtle graph pattern. It feels refined: less like a tool and more like an instrument. This pen embraces traditional craft but with the goal of blending it into everyday contemporary life.

Satisfying mechanics

The clip is also the button that exposes the tip of the ballpoint. Pushing on the top exposes the pen tip, while pressing on the front retracts it.

Why Channel?

We named this pen because the passage where the clip slides looks like a channel. We like when things are moving forward so channels are inspiring. Pens allow us to take the thoughts and ideas swimming around in our heads and put them down on paper. Once we can see those thoughts outside of our minds, we can take the next step.

Extended grip pattern

In the same way that a person’s eyes shift around a room while having a conversation, a pen is held in many different positions when in use. That’s why we extended the grip pattern over half of the pen body.

Forget the pen

Ballpoint pens roll around in nearly every drawer. When writing with a ballpoint pen, it is almost invisible. This 'transparency' is only possible with the most sophisticated stationery. You can forget about the pen and focus on the writing.

Focus on expressing

Ballpoint pens are to a writer what goggles and oxygen tanks are to a diver. Having to dip a pen into ink constantly is like having to come up for air every 30 seconds. The tanks take the diver further under the ocean and a ballpoint allows the writer to focus more deeply on expressing.

Giant pen

Here are drawings of an oversized ballpoint pen prototype we made using a roll-on deodorant container. Just thinking about how remarkable it is to use a ball for the tip of a pen made us want to make a giant pen. We cut off the bottom of a deodorant container, attached a large tube, and filled it with sumi ink. It wrote for about thirty seconds and was immediately clogged. We are regularly impressed by how well some ballpoint pens work.

Smooth and quick drying

Surprisingly smooth and quick drying, this pen is the result of much experimentation and research. It’s best to forget about all the inventions that are built into this pen and focus on the smooth transfer of your thoughts to paper. Fits refills ranging from 0.38mm to 0.7mm in permanent ink, black or blue colors. Refills: fits Mitsubishi Pencil Co. Ltd., (uni) SXR-38, SXR-5, and SXR-7. Use only these refills. Available worldwide.

Learning from Japan

The craftspeople, suppliers, and small workshops found in Japan make things not to be found anywhere else. We are fortunate to work with family businesses that are so focused on their craft. Don’t put Postalco items on a shelf or in a drawer. Their beauty is revealed through daily use. They will help you feel good at home and be ready in a meeting.
